Image Tool

	CompulsiveCode ImageTool is a free program for converting image files between RGB, CMYK, and GrayScale, as well as editing images.  This program can create 32-bit CMYK JPGs, 32-bit CMYK TIFs, and 40-bit CMYK TIFs with an Alpha transparency channel.  And the program can embed the specified color profile in the output. The program can create PDFs, and PDFs with a transparency mask (including CMYK PDFs).  These should be PDF/X compliant with embedded color profiles. This program supports the following input formats:  BMP, GIF, JPG, PNG, TIF, EMF, WMF, AVIF, HEIC, WEBP, DNG, HDP, JXL, JXR, RAF, WDP, PCX, JNG, XPS, ICO, and RESX Input can be RGB/A, CMYK/A, Gray, Palette, HDR, Black+White, etc.  This program supports the following output formats: TIF, PDF, XPS, JPG, PNG, ICO, BMP, GIF, APNG.  Some of the useful editing functions in this program include: Separate color channels.  Adjust bit depth.  Output any bit depth from 1-bit to 128-bit. Color-Matching, including RGB to CMYK and CMYK to CMY. Adjust black pixels to add or remove "Rich" Black. Create CMYK and CMYKA TIFs, JPGs and PDFs. Color Corrections for all color channels, whether RGB or CMYK. Convert to gray "K-Only" CMYK. A pixel-grabber, to get colors from the screen. Duo-Toning. Painting functions with brushes and pens. Create animated GIFs and animated PNGs from saved images, screen-recording, or sprite-sheets. Create multi-page TIFs.  View all pages of multi-page files.  View tags within TIFs. Basic drawing and image editing functions for adding text and shapes to images, all with proper color-space handling.  The program is portable.  It is a single executable, with a digital signature so there are no scary warnings about untrusted software.

There is a lag on first use. - Multi-Thread some image operations. 2026-04-29: Changed the main icon of this program. 2026-04-28: UI Bug-fixes. Mostly around the Drawing tools when no image is loaded. 2026-04-27: Fixed a couple more minor issues with the Drawing tools. I remember when this program was just an image converter.. Added a very simple screen for creating multi-page TIFs... Added a screen for creating and recording animated GIFs and animated PNGs. 2026-04-26: Added some Grid options. 2026-04-22: The Text Tool now works correctly. Disabled rotation for the text tool. Convert the text to a raster object and then rotate if necessary. Fixed Paint-Can tool component order incorrect (Red/Blue swapped). Fixed most of the Line and Pen tool stuff. Added support for extracting images from .Resx files. 2026-04-20: Horizontal Flip and Vertical Flip are now done for the selected area of the image. 2026-04-18: Decided to move the drawing tools to the main window. 2026-04-17: Finally took some time to fix and finish some things. The Color Corrections screen now works. The DuoToning screen now works. The Flood-Fill drawing tool now works. Fixed a possible bug with row padding in the Replace Color function. 2026-04-08: Fixed saving as GIF or animated GIF causing transparency to be lost. Fixed conversion to indexed format causing transparency to be lost. Fixed most handling of indexed images with transparency. 2026-04-05: The Fine Rotation screen now has an option to preserve the original size. I needed this for creating rotated images that maintain their center, for making some sprite images and animations. 2026-03-31: Added a window for cutting Sprite-Sheets and converting to animations. Discovered an issue with loss of transparency when converting to GIF or Indexed8 format. 2026-02-24: Added transparency control to pen and brush colors. Mostly finished the Free Polygon tool. Need to finish: Drawing Text and Drawing Lines. Confirm no issues with colorspace and 1-bit images. 2026-02-23: Added some Duo-Toning functionality. 2026-02-19: Back to working on the Drawing tools. Fixed some color issues when drawing. 2026-02-09: More improvements to the drawing UI. Can't wait to move on to other parts of this program. Also working on expanding editing functions to natively support 16 BPC and 32 BPC. 2026-02-08: Added more basic shapes that can be drawn. This could even be expanded to support custom shapes. 2026-02-07: Code refinements. Improving to drawing tools and interface. 2026-02-06: Added fine rotation functionality for drawing Shapes and Text. 2026-02-05: Added support for drawing text (outlined and/or filled) with a custom textbox. 2026-02-04: Implemented numerous functions for painting shapes, along with controls for Pen and Brush settings. 2026-02-03: More improvements to pasted image support.. Improved the Make Pixel Transparent function to support 16 BPC images. Implemented a better resampler that works with any pixel format including CMYKA. This should allow for implementing more drawing functions going forward. 2026-01-31: Major improvements to pasted image support, including transparency, dragging, resizing, stretching, rotating, etc. Added tolerance option for Make Pixel Color Transparent function. 2026-01-30: Improvements to the selection rectangle. The selection rectangle can now be resized. Pasted images are now overlaid objects that can be dragged and resized before being applied to the main image. 2026-01-29: Added 'Fit To Window' option. 2026-01-26: Fixed issues with CMYK Black Replacement. Added more options for Color Corrections, to allow for color adjustment while preserving white and black. 2026-01-23: Working on basic painting functions for CMYK. Pen, Rect, and FloodFill so far. Then text, etc. 2026-01-21: Added an interface for viewing tags in TIF files. 2026-01-20: Added right-click menu when right-clicking on tabs. Added support for Ctrl+Tab and Ctrl+Shift+Tab to cycle through tabs. Added a little color to the tabs, to make them easier to see. Moved the Zoom info. 2026-01-19: Implemented tabbed interface. This will allow for more editing functionality in the future. Fixed issues with dialog windows being displayed behind the main window when using Stay On Top. 2026-01-16: Adjustments to the Pixel Info window. Fixed scenarios where color profile was not being observed or preserved. 2026-01-15: Fixed some issues with scroll bars and zooming. The selection rectangle now retains it's position and size correctly when the zoom changes. Fixed Color-Invert not working correctly with some pixel formats. Fixed issues with clipboard. Copying from this program into other programs now works more consistently. 2026-01-14: Fixed some issues with the Input Color Profile application. Color Correction of brightness for CMYK is now +K for darker, and -CMYK for brighter. Prior to this, both directions adjusted all channels, resulting in up to 400% coverage for darker blacks. The program is no longer simply for converting RGB to CMYK. Takes a moment to load, to perform CMY color matching. Added functionality to rotate an image while preserving pixel format. So CMYKA images can be rotated. 2025-12-18: Fixed background color being affected by color channel selection. Added a dialog for Black Reeplacement, which applies to the selected area of the image. Any pixel with K=100% will be affected. This can allow manually setting 0,0,0,100 for text areas, or rich black in other areas. 2025-12-17: Adjusted PDF output to conform to PDF/X4 for CMYKA images, and PDF/X1 for CMYK images. 2025-12-15: Fixed some old code with stride issues. Probably more to fix, but this impacted cropping at certain bit depths. 2025-12-14: Rearranged some UI options and menus. Added dialogs for resampling, for cropping, and for image info. 2025-12-12: Moved the DPI adjustment to the right-click menu of the input image. Improved speed of some functions by skipping the compression step on temporary images. 2025-12-02: Improved support for input images beyond 32-bit / 40-bit color. 2025-12-01: Added the ability to make a color transparent. 2025-11-31: Added the ability to crop an area of the input image. 2025-11-29: Improvements to the transparency replacement, better preserving the specified CMYK value. 2025-11-25: Fixed an issue with 8-bit input files converting to CMYK. 2025-11-24: Replaced the Background Color-Picker (which was RGB) with a custom CMYK Color-Picker. 2025-11-23: Fixed clipboard transparency support. Added menu item to paste an image from the clipboard. 2025-11-21: UI Improvements. 2025-11-20: Fixed issues with background color when converting images with transparency to a non-transparent format. Added functions for removing transparency and manually blending a background color in a CMYK image. 2025-11-19: Added background checkerboard to show transparency. 2025-11-18: Started writing a program to convert images to CMYK. Known Bugs: TIF 8+8 (grayscale with transparency) is treated as 32bit ARGB, which can lead to hints of color in the CMYK output.
